Ferry to Paradise

Boarding Pass to Paradise

I admit it, I over think, over research and over analyze things. I am trying to chill more but when it comes to travel I am obssessive about trip planning. My friend Mark, who lives in Antigua told me about his June 2008 trip to Anguilla. This was one island I had not visited. My 16 year old and I needed a short getaway so we found air and a condo and took off. We booked air from Bonaire on DAE to Sint Maarten. I used a few travel newsgroups as resources to determine how to get to Anguilla from Sint Maarten. It’s a short 2o minute tripon the ferry so what’s the big deal. Well the big deal is major choices and many opinions. The short is you can ferry from the Dutch side or from Marigot. If you ferry from Marigot you have to pay the taxi fare but then only pay 15.00 USD pp each way for the public ferry. The Dutch side ferries are  more money and private. They include Funtime and the Shauna Ferry.  We opted to spend a night in St. Martin (the French side) and shop and lunch in Marigot the next day before heading to Anguilla. We entered the ferry terminal and easily and quickly bought tickets for the  Link ferry.  We paid our fee and gave out suitcases to the porter. Maggie and I secured upper deck seats offering a splendid view of Marigot.  The ride was smooth and enjoyable. Coming home we had an early departure on the first ferry. It was the Link again and was the “school bus” taking kids to school on the Dutch side. The ride was a bit longer but very enjoyable. We arrived at the immigration station, surrendered our passports and then reclaimed them to then take the free taxi to the airport. It was a piece of cake. Next time I will book The Link.  You may contact them:

Getting to Anguilla

Heading to De Islands Mon

As a travel agent I have learned the most current ways to scour the internet for the best possible deals for my clients. I no longer handle ticketing but do steer my clients in several directions to assist them in finding air to Anguilla. My favorite search engine is www.yapta.com. You may download the software free and enter in your flights for as many trips as needed. Yapta will automatically notify you if the fare drops. I have see AA flights fluctuate hundreds of dollars in one day. Yapta has saved my clients and I thousands of dollars. Kayak is a great site. You have to know how to fine tune your searches but their daily or weekly email alerts are great. Presently the cheapest way to get to Anguilla might be Delta, AA or Jet Blue to SXM/Sint Maarten and then the public ferry from Marigot to Anguilla. The public ferry is affordable and a fun 20 + min ride. There are private ferries as well. Email me for the scoop. American Eagle flies from San Juan but there is a long layover sometimes in Puerto Rico. Never fear, I have done it many times and have great tips on cool things to do so contact me.  It pays to know your search engines and to use them. I recommend Kayak and Yapta for my Caribbean bound clients.

What is Anguilla Bliss

Blissful Feet in Maunday Bay

I finally understood true bliss when encountering this magical island. The azul blue against the white powdery sand was blinding. The tranquil nights with a chorus of tree frogs serenading us as we walked thru the lush gardens. The lull of the lapping waves as we walked barefoot near Elvis’s with one of his potent punches. in hand. Floating in the Caribbean blue gazing into a brilliant sky. I have seen amazing beaches from the Grenadines up to Bermuda. Never have I encountered such sandy stretches as I found on Anguilla. The island was relaxing and intoxicating. I left planning my next trip back. The only way to cure my Post Anguilla Depression (PAD) is with a new trip. Anguilla Bliss…..pure and simple.
